It is surprising to enter the world capital of watchmaking, La Chaux-de-Fonds, without having the time displayed at any of the entrances to the town. Based on this reflection made by a Federal Councilor, a new collaboration between Tissot and the School of Applied Arts of La Chaux-de–Fonds (EAA) was born.
Since La Chaux-de-Fonds is accessible by 3 major routes the students were challenged to design 3 large-scale clocks inspired by different eras; the past, the present and the future.
In order to carry out this daring project, the students had to follow stringent guidelines including their creations being able to resist the weather extremes that can be experienced in the region.
The competition ended a few weeks ago and students received their prizes from Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla on August 20th at Tissot HQ in Le Locle.
The different projects will be displayed at the EAA and Tissot and the Council of La Chaux-de-Fonds have committed to investigating the feasibility of installing the clocks as a further contribution to the UNESCO
