To mark the occasion, the brand launched three new Tissot T-Race models, as well as the T-Race MotoGP™ collection, all with motorcycle racing in their DNA – just like Tissot’s new ambassador.
Bastianini is blazing a trail through MotoGP™. After a remarkable 2022 season on a Ducati with the independent Gresini team, where he won four races and finished third overall, he has joined the Ducati Lenovo Team alongside reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia for what promises to be a truly spectacular season.
Rimini-born Bastianini was made to ride a motorbike. He first took to the saddle aged just three years and three months old – which is why 33 became his race number of choice. The sport comes naturally to him, but he knows to get to the very top, and he knows it will require dedication and commitment.
Aged just 11, he is European champion and two-time Italian minimoto champion. Then, in 2014, the really serious stuff starts: Bastianini joins Moto3™ Team Gresini Fun&GO and becomes Rookie of the Year.
The following season, he finishes third overall and takes his first ever Grand Prix win. In 2016, he is second overall. After two more seasons in Moto3™, in 2019, he makes his Moto2 debut – and is crowned champion the year after.
The very top level beckons. In 2021, he makes his MotoGP™ debut with an Independent Team Ducati and his bid to win the ultimate title begins. With over 40 career podiums, he realises what is needed to take the first step and is now, only two years later, already a multiple Grand Prix winner in the premier class… with his eyes set on challenging for the crown.
Bastianini has had to change his number to 23 – 33 was already taken in MotoGP™ – but that decision seems apt, too. It is the number worn by one of his heroes, basketball player Michael Jordan. In the NBA – another sport inextricably linked with Tissot, its official timekeeper – MJ is also an example that it takes perspiration and resilience to become the best, a value shared by Bastianini, and by Tissot.
Bastianini was a talented gymnast and diver, but he wanted to become a legend at one thing: motorcycle riding. He realised that the path to success is one that rewards only those who are determined, and who face adversity with resilience. In today’s constantly changing world, it is sometimes easy for ambitious people to lose sight of the importance of commitment. You can’t become the greatest without time, devotion and passion. With 170 years of experience, focus has led Tissot to where it is today, number one traditional Swiss watch brand in volume. Both the brand and its ambassador share the same line of thinking and values.
Tissot has been listening to the signs of the times for 170 years – there is no progress without staying on course.
